My Chat with AMAC D Don, a young Sudanese making an appeal to other young African Men (Boys) to reduce their act of violence in public or social gatherings. This video is insightful, please and share.
These are some comments posted on our Facebook page relating to this video and our response .
- Agum Madit LOL great interview Step, the topic might seem offensive/ stereotypical act to other but clearly it like any other topics that any African people/men ask for instinct saying that all African women like to wear fake hair well the fact is that some do and don't.I have notice that you used the term "most" not all, so my understanding is that not all! but some.
- Ogie Omo-irefo Your caption just reinforces negative stereotypes. As you know, Africa is a continent and by saying most 'African men', Other people watching this would immediately believe 90% of us are aggressive. There are aggressive people from every country and of every color. Please be careful how you relay information. The media is a very powerful tool for informing and misinforming people. Keep up the good work!
- Chuks Ehilegbu I appreciate you guys' effort. I also acknowledge the fact that we are in a civilised society. The organisers of such shows need not to be informed that security need to be on ground. In an ideal case inform the Police to ensure time-to-time patrols during the show. The organisers also need to be vigilant to ensure that fellows who disrespect others by fighting should be banned from attending subsequent functions.
Generally, not just most African men, anyone regardless of origin or race, who fights in public to the discomfort of others should be tamed. - Agum Madit Very true facts that you raise there Stephanie and what hurt even more is when truth is being told. I have watch the video and it clear how the term well soaked in the discussion. the goodies about this is that face opinions everyone have their own understanding and yeah that's what make us in general different and yes it very scary going out and have anxious feeling of getting into some sort of problems, straight topic thanks.
- One On One With Stephanie Hi Ogie and Agum thanks for the feedback.
Lets start by addressing each feedback directly, Ogie thanks for your insightful take on this subject but just so we are clear, our intention while talking about this highly sensitive topic was not to single out any particular Country which is why the caption reads "WHY ARE MOST AFRICAN MEN SO AGGRESSIVE" if you read In between the lines you will notice the phrase 'MOST' and not 'ALL'. We said most African Men because it will be unfair to just name a particular Country without due study to back that claim. The video was done as a response to a lot of misconduct carried out, at a lot of social events here in Melbourne. People spend their time, energy and money to put up these events, only for some miscreants to come in there just to destroy and sabotage the effort of all these hard working people in showbiz.
Sometimes, one could even argue that it's a set up cos it always starts at the same time, same pattern every time, the painful part of the whole story is that when you ask these boys why they were fighting, there is always no reason.....
I don't think the caption reinforces any negative stereotypes at all as it is not a statement of fact but a question 'WHY ARE' and not 'Most Are' , if you get my drift and we if you watched the video you will understand that we looked at the subject as a social issue and was mainly a plea to those who come out to social events with the sole aim of depriving others from having a good time.
Agum, point on. I'm sure as woman you would love to go out and have a good night and not have your heels in your hands instead of your foot cos you are afraid that there might be a senseless fight that would demand you to be on your toes.
As for me, I'm tired of the cat and rat fight cos that's what I call it. If you can't handle social gatherings then my advice is stay home!
I hope this clears the air a bit.
Once again thank you for the feedback! - One On One With Stephanie
